BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students at Fairmount Elementary participated in the annual “Egg Drop” event Tuesday.

In collaboration with Bristol Tennessee Essential Services (BTES), fourth-grade students took on the challenge of designing and building egg containers that could be dropped from different heights using a BTES bucket truck.

“I began this egg drop project about 12 years ago, and every year I conduct it with the fourth graders,” shared Amy Marion, a Science and Social Studies Teacher. “We utilize our science curriculum standards and enliven them beyond the classroom environment.”

Marion said the event gives students a hands-on opportunity to help understand science in a fun way.

“I really enjoy doing hands-on activities with the students,” noted Marion. “Over the years, teaching has transformed significantly, and the pressure from testing is immense. Being able to have fun with the students and help them grasp science in an enjoyable way gives me a sense of achievement as a teacher.”
