WHITE HEATH, Ill. (WCIA) — Starting your own business can be a scary thought, but not for fourth graders at White Heath Elementary School.

Following weeks of preparation, students were able to display their entrepreneurial talents at the school library. They created a variety of items, from baked treats to jewelry, and determined their own pricing. On Friday, they had the opportunity to explore the innovations their peers had crafted, and they mentioned that this imaginative project imparted some important lessons.

“It was great to have all the kids learn about business and economics and services,” said fourth grader Emma Gallivan.

“We learned about things like goods, needs, and wants, and we also figured out how to manage money,” shared student Emily Harrington. “It was a lot of fun because we got to create our own product.”

Students said they enjoyed this type of project and hope it continues to be a part of the fourth-grade curriculum.
