CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) – The opening day of the 2025 IHSA girls’ track and field state meet did not lack impressive performances.

Thursday saw prelims for class 1A. 2A and 3A prelims are scheduled for Friday before finals across the board on Saturday.

Tuscola senior Lia Patterson advanced to finals in four events: 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 200 and 4×200.

Shelbyville witnessed several remarkable displays, notably featuring the fastest 4×800 time and a first and second place by Aly Douglass and Lily Woolery in the second heat of the 800, both securing spots in the finals.

Warrensburg-Latham impressed in the throws. Cardinal throwers Emma Whightsil and Brenna Dutcher are both finals bound in both discus and shot put.

Sullivan’s Riane Bear and Villa Grove’s Evalice Callison were among the top 15 advancing to finals in high jump.

The mile run had solid representation from the WCIA viewing area. Tuscola’s Kate Foltz, Maroa-Forsyth’s Klaire Eighner, and two St. Anthony athletes (Aubrey Denning and Isabella Keller) are all advancing to the 1600 finals on Saturday.
