Officials said an adult was also injured in the accident.
DALLAS — One child has died after being run over by a truck on Thursday near Felix Botello Elementary School in Dallas, police said
As reported by Dallas PD Assistant Chief Catrina Shead, a truck struck three children and an adult at around 3:30 p.m. on South Marsalis Avenue near Interstate 35 East.
Shead revealed that sadly, one of the children passed away. The two other children are in “critical but stable condition,” according to Shead. Dallas Fire-Rescue identified the victims as two 8-year-old girls and a 12-year-old boy but did not indicate which child died. The DPD confirmed all the children affected are under 10 years old, noting the driver was elderly and the adult victim is in stable condition.
“It’s devastating, you know,” Brian Evans, who lives nearby, told WFAA. “It just sucks for that to happen.”
Witness Andrea Williams described the scene to WFAA, saying, “I just saw blood… like everywhere. As a mom, you never want to imagine or witness something so graphic. My heart feels very heavy right now.”
Williams told WFAA the driver exited his truck using a cane.
“Your heart just goes out on both sides because he’s old, he’s got a handicapped sticker on his truck, then kids and the mom was hit, so it’s just sad all the way around.”
Dallas Fire-Rescue said units responded to the scene and transported the victims to Children’s Medical Center.
Shead said police are investigating this incident as an accident, and, through their preliminary investigation, don’t believe that speed played a factor in the collision.
