ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — On Saturday, Plumb Alley Day, the largest yearly fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon, brought thousands of local residents to the downtown area.

Representatives from the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon shared with News Channel 11 that the funds collected during the event are used to benefit children’s organizations in the region. This event celebrated its 43rd year, with an anticipated attendance of approximately 5,000 people.

The festival offered various attractions including food stalls, over 100 craft vendors, live music, a dance show, activities for kids, and a sizable yard sale hosted by the Kiwanis Club.

President of the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon Phil Dipietro said the money raised will be seen in the community, benefiting kids.

“All that money goes back into the kids of Washington County [Va.],” he said. “We sponsor such things as the reading program that’s put on by the Washington County Public Libraries. We help refresh areas that kids go to, regular playgrounds, sporting activities, members of certain schools that go on field trips. We like to sponsor those types of activities and so many more that go on every single year.”

Dipietro said anyone who may want to assist in making local kids happy and healthy can join the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon.

“If there’s anybody in the community that would like to become a member of the Kiwanis Club, we’re always welcoming new members. Visit our website and learn more about the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon, how you can become involved. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community and again, just support all activities around kids of Washington County, Virginia.”
