Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early today, Jeromah Reshawd Garner, 35, was taken into custody after officers pulled over his rented Cybertruck on campus, where they allegedly discovered a stolen gun and marijuana.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 24, a University of Florida Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop on a Cybertruck traveling along Buckman Drive as the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

Upon investigation, the officer found that the driver, identified as Garner, possessed a suspended license. Garner purportedly confirmed his awareness of the suspension, noting that he had been stopped by the Florida Highway Patrol just a few hours earlier.

Post Miranda, Garner reportedly said there was nothing in the vehicle that officers needed to know about.

The officer reported that the Cybertruck was rented and the tag did not show up in law enforcement databases, so Garner was asked for the VIN number. Garner reportedly gave an officer the vehicle’s key, which showed the VIN number, but the VIN number also did not show up in law enforcement databases. When an officer walked Garner over to the vehicle, he reportedly saw a firearm in the driver’s side door; a query of the firearm’s serial number revealed that it had been stolen in Alachua County.

A search of Garner’s vehicle reportedly produced about six grams of marijuana.

Garner has been charged with grand theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, unlawfully concealing a firearm, and knowingly driving with a license suspended with previous convictions for driving without a license. Garner has five local misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and at least four felonies for unlawful concealed carry and distributing drugs; he is on probation until 2034. Judge Luis Bustamante set bail at $12,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
