DALTON, Ga. () – Authorities in Dalton are currently examining the case of three fatal shootings that occurred at two separate locations, which are suspected to be connected.

Reports say a man shot and killed his wife at her home, then went to his girlfriend’s residence where he shot and killed her and then himself.

The person believed to be responsible for the shootings has been identified as 37-year-old Kevin Andrew Akins from Dalton, Georgia. The victims were his wife, 35-year-old Rebeca Nicole Akins, and his girlfriend, 33-year-old Cindel Mae Rhoden.

According to information on the Dalton Police Department website, units were called to the residence of Rebeca Nicole Akins just before 6:00 pm on the evening of Friday, May 23rd. This was a welfare check prompted by her coworkers, who were concerned as she had not been in contact for several days.

After being unable to get anyone to come to the door, officers were let inside by apartment staff and discovered the Rebeca’s body with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives were immediately notified and an investigation started.

They were soon able to find surveillance video of the suspect leaving the apartment at approximately 6:00 am on Wednesday, May 21st.

During the course of the evening, investigators were able to track the Kevin Akins’ vehicle to a second apartment complex.

While waiting for a search warrant in the early morning hours Saturday, police saw a man arrive at the scene and enter the apartment using a key.

Police later learned that he was Cindel Mae Rhoden’s father and he had come to the scene to check on her after she had not been heard from for a few days.

The man then came back outside and called 911 to report that he’d found his Cindel Mae and Levin Akins shot to death.

Investigators secured the scene and found that the suspect had apparently shot and killed her before killing himself.

The investigation of these killings is continuing.
