BURTON, S.C. () — The Inwood neighborhood is usually a tranquil cul-de-sac, located just off Joe Frazier Road in Burton. Residents mentioned that the usual calm was disrupted by gunshots last night, which all stemmed from a food delivery.

“They came running to the door, knocking, identifying themselves, and told us, ‘Hey, your DoorDasher just shot your neighbor,’” a resident recounted.

Corey Ellis, who lives in the Inwood neighborhood, stated that the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) visited his home yesterday evening after attending to a male who had been shot.

According to BCSO, the incident happened around 6:30 p.m.

Ellis said his family’s food order had just been placed on their doorstep, but he wasn’t aware of what would follow.

“Apparently what we had heard was the dasher, you know, dropped the food off and as they were leaving, for some reason, had a heated exchange of words with the neighbor.”

Ellis said, that’s when he was told that the neighbor had been shot. Other residents said they rushed outside to help aid the man’s wound.

Beaufort County Sheriffs confirmed that the male was conscious and alert when they arrived and was transported for further medical care.

“None of us really had no idea what was going on or what had happened. And then, yeah, that’s when, like I said, they told us and it was like, wow, okay, I’m kind of in disbelief moment,” said Ellis. “So were still kind of trying to process it because it was, you know, one of those scenarios. You don’t think it’ll happen to you or near you and then, you know, all of a sudden, it’s like, oh, there it is. So strange.”

reached out to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for more information about the incident, but they confirmed they have handed the case over to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division because of multiple conflicts of interest in the department.
