MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — Two workers from a Florida port are facing charges related to the theft of cruise terminal artwork valued at $50,000, as reported by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

As per an arrest affidavit accessed by NBC affiliate WTVJ, the individuals involved, Angel Prudhomme, 27, and Tangela Parks, 50, who are employed as custodial staff by Miami-Dade County, were detained on Wednesday and charged with grand theft.

The sheriff’s department revealed that earlier this month, Prudhomme was seen on security footage taking artwork off the walls in Terminal G. Investigators noted that he attempted to hide the artwork in a stairwell and trash bins to avoid being captured by the cameras.

Prudhomme was later seen moving the artwork with Parks and placing it in Parks’ car, according to the arrest report.

The sheriff’s office said the pair took 24 mosaic and marble pieces, and half of them were damaged from being improperly removed.

After detectives recovered the artwork, Miami-Dade deputies said Prudhomme and Parks admitted to stealing it and were booked into jail.

“As Sheriff of Miami-Dade County, I take individuals using their employment to steal very seriously. I am committed to ensuring that anyone involved in dishonest actions will be held accountable,” Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a statement to WTVJ.
