'Doctor Odyssey' star Joshua Jackson says he’s "made it" after John Oliver showed his support for a Season 2 renewal on 'Last Week Tonight'

Doctor Odyssey has John Oliver in its corner — and series star Joshua Jackson is well aware.

The host of Last Week Tonight began the May 18 show by discussing President Donald Trump’s backlash against ABC News. This occurred after a reporter questioned him about the Qatari government supposedly giving him a Boeing 747-8.

“What do you say to people who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you?” the reporter had asked at the time. “Why not leave it behind?”

Trump responded, “So you’re from ABC fake news, right? It’s just ABC. Well, I bet a few others might. Let me tell you, that question is embarrassing. The jet isn’t a personal gift; it’s meant for the Department of Defense. You should really know better, considering how often you, and your network, have been humiliated. Your whole network is a mess. ABC is a disaster.”

Oliver found Trump’s reaction to be “quite hostile,” but he added that he also believed “ABC should feel embarrassed.” However, Oliver referred to an entirely different scenario involving another extravagant vessel.

“Just not for that entirely legitimate question, but for the fact that as of taping, they still haven’t renewed Doctor Odyssey for Season 2,” he continued. “What the fuck are you doing, ABC? It’s sexy ER on a boat. It’s The Pitt with sharks.”

For more of Oliver’s rant — that hilariously took aim at the renewals of ABC’s The Rookie and Will Trent instead of Doctor Odyssey — you can check out the video above. Unfortunately, his frustrations have not been quelled just yet, as Doctor Odyssey has yet to be renewed for a second season. However, Jackson, who plays Dr. Max Bankman on the ABC dramedy, caught wind of Oliver’s support of the show’s “big deck energy,” per TVLine.

“If I was more proficient at Instagram, I would have plastered that everywhere,” he teased to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday night (May 27). “Should probably still do that because thank you, John Oliver. Whether or not they pick us up or not, I kind of feel like my career can end now because I got this shoutout.”

Jackson then backtracked, adding, “Well I hope my career doesn’t end now, but I kind of feel like I’ve made it now that I made it on the John Oliver show.”

The ABC series also starring Don Johnson, Phillipa Soo, and Sean Teale was missing from the network’s fall TV slate, with 9-1-1: Nashville taking its slot on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich told Deadline that series co-creator Ryan Murphy is “really busy” and is “doing a lot” of shows for the network.

“So we’re just continuing that creative conversations with him,” he added at the time.
