LUBBOCK, Texas — Five-year-old Hannah Jo Crawford will go under open-heart surgery for the third and final time next month. A diagnosis before she was born helped her parents navigate her health journey.
Hannah was born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome, a condition where one side of the heart is underdeveloped, causing blood to pump incorrectly, which can cause difficulty breathing.
“The right side of her heart is smaller just that it didn’t have that blood flow to support it,” said Charity Crawford, Hannah’s mom.
Charity said this is not uncommon, as one child out of 100 will be diagnosed with the condition on the left or right side of the heart.
Twenty-eight-year-old Bailey Davenport was diagnosed before she was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
“To know that I’m helping another person or another family with their little one makes me proud because I have a lot of knowledge behind what I have and what I’ve been through,” Davenport said. “If I can help one person, then that’s worth it to me.”
A fundraiser is being held for Hannah Jo’s travel expenses Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Palasades slingshots at 3710 Woordrow at 3pm.
