Champaign restaurant asks for help after cameras catch teens damaging property

Champaign Restaurant Seeks Assistance After Teens Vandalize Property on Camera

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A downtown Champaign restaurant is seeking assistance from the city after security footage showed teenagers vandalizing their establishment.

The footage shows two kids pull up on e-bikes, then rip out plants on the Nando Milano patio before they drove off.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday, according to one of the restaurant’s managers. An employee from The Literary aided them in re-planting damaged items, yet the restaurant continues to seek the city’s support.

General Manager Jackson Curtis stated, “In the past, we’ve had neighborhood ambassadors who would keep watch over the area. Someone suggested in the comments that having people patrol to clean up trash and monitor the area could serve as a deterrent to these activities.”

He also said this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Nando’s had their patio lights ripped down last year as well.
