AUGUSTA, Ga. () – On Friday, Project Refresh, a local charity dedicated to aiding the homeless, provided complimentary showers, personal care items, meals, and health checks.

To support the initiative, the City of Augusta facilitated free transportation to May Park from various community centers across the region, aiming to extend help to those in dire need.

“How many of you experienced not having a shower during a hurricane? Imagine enduring that for a week. Now, envision living like that for six months, or even seven or eight months, without access to basic hygiene, clothing, or essential survival items,” explained Brittany Hutto, the executive director of Project Refresh. “This was the driving force behind launching Project Refresh, to provide showers for those who cannot reach them otherwise. I’ve talked to individuals who emerge from our showers feeling like a new person, like Superman. One woman mentioned that she could feel the tension washing away with the dirty water flowing down the drain while she was showering.”

The next project refresh event will be held Friday, June 30th at May Park on 4th Street.
