AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A man from Richmond County has been arrested following what local investigators are describing as the largest methamphetamine seizure in Augusta’s history.

Jaquez Sturgis faces charges for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl. According to investigators, searches were conducted at three locations: properties on the 200 block of East Hale Street, the 100 block of Tybee Court, and an apartment complex on the 1300 block of Marks Church Road.

During those searches, more than 2,300 grams of fentanyl and 20 kilos of meth were recovered along with a vehicle, 2 guns and $18,346 in cash.

Investigators say more arrests could be coming as a result of the investigation.

In a statement, Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley expressed, “I want to extend my gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional work done by our Narcotics Division and Crime Suppression Division. This seizure is not only unprecedented in its magnitude—it signifies lives potentially saved from fatal overdoses and communities safeguarded from the violence tied to the drug trade. Our mission is to unremittingly track down those who infiltrate our neighborhoods with these lethal substances. I am immensely proud of the unwavering dedication of our investigators and every deputy involved in this mission.”
