A Louisiana woman was arrested after police said she and her brother assaulted her ex-boyfriend while telling him that “he should die.”

Court records obtained by The Advocate, a local news source, reveal that Ruby Ealy, 48, was arrested after police were called to a shooting on May 29 in a neighborhood in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Police found the alleged victim, identified as Ealy’s ex-boyfriend but unnamed, suffering from a gunshot injury to his arm.

The ex-boyfriend allegedly told officers that before he was shot, Ruby Ealy beat him with a baseball bat.

The Advocate reports that the ex-boyfriend informed the police that he and Ealy, who had been in a relationship for three years and had separated a year earlier, had a dispute that evening. Ruby Ealy confirmed this during police questioning. However, their accounts of the events diverged after that point.

The ex-boyfriend said that Ruby Ealy’s brother, Darius Ealy, was also at the home at the time of the argument, and he was the one who allegedly shot him. Before the alleged gunfire, the ex-boyfriend allegedly said the siblings both beat him up with a baseball bat while saying “he should die.” They also allegedly beat the man with their fists. Local ABC affiliate WBRZ also obtained the documents and reported that Ruby Ealy told police that she heard the gunshots from inside the house.
