Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Andrew Russell Moore, Jr., 32, was taken into custody yesterday for allegedly assaulting a woman in the laundry room at Georgetown Apartments.

At approximately 12:28 p.m. on May 26, a Gainesville Police Department officer arrived at Georgetown Apartments (1324 NW 16th Avenue), where the victim reported that Moore had been making repeated comments about wanting to assault her both verbally and through text messages over several days. She stated that she clearly communicated her lack of interest, but on the morning of May 25, while she was using the shared laundry facility, Moore entered and began making inappropriate remarks. She confronted him, instructing him to desist, but he allegedly lunged at her and pinched her genitals over her clothing. While she was still processing what had occurred, she claimed he repeated the action.

On May 27, the officer examined surveillance footage from the laundry room that showed the victim entering, followed by Moore, who immediately moved to a blind spot in the corner. The officer noted that the victim initially appeared upset and walked away from Moore, visibly angry. At a certain point, the victim approached Moore again but then seemed to have a physical reaction as if struck. She proceeded with her laundry, and Moore exited after her.

The officer used law enforcement databases to find a unit number at Georgetown Apartments that was associated with Moore’s name. The officer showed the victim a photo line-up including the person associated with that apartment, and the victim positively identified him as the man who had grabbed her.

Moore was arrested at about 10 a.m. on June 1 at his apartment.

Moore has been charged with battery. He has three felony convictions and four misdemeanor convictions (one violent); he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in November 2024. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000, ordered him fitted with a GPS monitor, set a curfew between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., and ordered him not to return to Georgetown Apartments.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
