Donald Trump is privately fuming at Elon Musk over the ex-DOGE leader’s attack on his ‘disgusting’ spending plans. 

The Tesla boss rampaged this week on social media over the ‘big, beautiful bill’ that Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have been crafting for months. 

Musk derided the effort and claimed it would increase the national debt by trillions of dollars over the next decade. 

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released an update Wednesday morning showing that, if passed, the Trump-backed spending bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over ten years. Currently, the national debt is $37 trillion and rising.

Republicans argue the CBO number is too high, claiming it is not accurately calculating the benefits of the bill’s tax cuts, and the budget deficit will actually shrink.

Musk likened the bill to a ‘disgusting abomination’ of ‘pork-filled Congressional spending’ that ‘will drive America into debt slavery’ in a frenzy of posts he wrote on X around 2am Wednesday mornng.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson ridiculed the former DOGE leader’s claims during a Wednesday press conference, adding the president isn’t happy either.

‘We’ve talked about this,’ Johnson said of his discussion with Trump about Musk’s public criticism. ‘You know, he’s not delighted that Elon did a 180 on that.’

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Wednesday that when he tried to call Musk recently that the billionaire didn’t answer. Musk posted on X the same day calling for an entirely new bill despite the months of work put into the current one

Johnson told members of his conference Wednesday in a closed door meeting that the president is ‘p***ed off’ that Musk is airing his frustrations publicly, NOTUS reported.

The president, meanwhile, has remained publicly silent on his ‘first buddy’ sounding off on the Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is Trump’s signature policy package. 

Just days ago the president held a ceremony for the outgoing DOGE leader in the Oval Office, where the pair thanked each other. 

‘I’m not upset about this,’ Johnson told reporters during the press conference, noting that he had spoken to Musk about the spending bill on Monday.

‘Elon was encouraged by that conversation,’ the speaker said. ‘We left on a great note. We were texting one another, you know, happy texts, you know, Monday.’

But when Johnson tried to reach the SpaceX owner after his most recent barrage against the spending bill, the billionaire didn’t pick up.

‘He didn’t answer,’ the speaker said. ‘I hope to talk to him today.’

Responding to a clip on X showing Johnson talking about his missed call, Musk responded with a terse message.

‘We need a new bill that doesn’t grow the deficit,’ the X owner wrote in response to the Republican’s comments.

The new broadside calling for an entirely new package, despite the months of work put into the current version, is a major blow to the GOP congressional leadership who have for months been courting Musk as an ally. 

;We don’t have time for a brand new bill,’ Johnson told reporters on Wednesday afternoon. ‘And what I want Elon and all my friends to recognize is the complexity of what we accomplished here.’

But Musk has not been understanding, and seemingly is bent on taking down the GOP-backed bill. 

‘Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is not ok! Kill the bill,’ Musk posted in another flurry of opposition on Wednesday afternoon.  

The billionaire wrote on X on Tuesday: ‘This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.’

‘Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.’ 

Musk was the largest political donor in the 2024 cycle, spending hundreds of millions to prop up Trump’s campaign. 

This week, he vowed to fund primary challenges against Republican lawmakers who support Trump’s spending bill. 

‘In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people,’ Musk wrote on Tuesday.

The bill is now being considered by the Senate after being passed out of the House in late May. 

Dueling GOP factions in the Senate are mulling how to proceed with the measure. 

Some conservatives are wanting deeper cuts to social programs like Medicaid.

Moderates are demanding that spending on social programs remain untouched. 

The Senate is hoping to pass a version of the Trump-backed package before July 4th.
