During a Wednesday evening media session at Capitol Hill with Senate Republicans, Senate Majority Leader John Thune faced questions from a journalist about the chances of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” being reconsidered from the start, following Elon Musk’s comments on the reconciliation bill passed by the House.

His answer could not be more crystal clear: “Failure’s not an option.”

Watch:

After a stark no in answer to the question, Thune elaborated, according to Fox News:

We’ve progressed significantly in this process. We understand the House invested substantial time in evaluating this bill. I believe we’ve held numerous discussions, around 18 meetings with the Senate Finance Committee, and we are focused on drafting a law aimed at improving the lives of the American public.

“We are moving forward and I am hopeful at the end, that we’ll have 51 votes in the Senate,” he continued, and said he felt confident his colleagues in the lower chamber would have the votes they need, “whenever the bill goes back to the House,” to get the bill to Trump for signing into law.

Thune said, “The wheels are in motion on this and as I said before, failure is not an option.”

While the Leader admitted that “it’s not going to be easy,” he said they “will get this done one way or the other.”

Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) also made remarks, telling the gathered journalists that he believes the Republican conference has not only “very strong support” for the president’s top agenda item, but that the upper chamber’s GOP has “very strong unity” about it. Thune added that “we feel good about where we are” on the reconciliation bill.

As this is a developing story, RedState will provide further updates as they become available.
