Michelle Obama is giving her followers a sneak peek of “The Look,” her upcoming book due out in the fall. In this publication, she discusses how her appearance was under constant scrutiny during her tenure in the White House, and she aspires to “reclaim more of that story” on her own terms.

The former first lady, who previously released the bestselling memoir “Becoming” in 2018, made an announcement via Instagram on June 5, revealing that her new book will hit the shelves on November 4. “The Look” marks her first literary work since her 2022 bestseller, “The Light We Carry.”

“While our family was in the White House, my appearance was constantly under examination — from my clothing choices to how my hair was styled,” she explained. “I have long felt the desire to reclaim more of this narrative and share my story in my own voice. I am grateful to be in a phase of life where I feel at ease being true to myself, wearing what brings me joy, and expressing who I am. I’m eager to share the insights I’ve gathered throughout this journey.”

Obama, 61, wrote that “The Look” is “a reflection on my lifelong journey with fashion, hair and beauty.”

“Inside, you’ll find some of the outfits that have meant the most to me, but more importantly, the moments that I lived through in them — big and small, personal and political, historic and ordinary — that were as memorable as the clothes themselves,” she continued.

The former first lady is also sharing the stories of her stylist, makeup artist and hairstylists who helped shape her appearance during her time in the White House.

“The Look is about more than fashion,” she wrote. “It’s about confidence. It’s about identity. It’s about the power of authenticity. My hope is that this book sparks conversation and reflection about the ways we see ourselves — and the way our society defines beauty.”

Obama has also been opening up about her time as first lady and its aftermath on her podcast with her brother, “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” and appearances on other podcasts.

She has spoken about former President Barack Obama’s reaction to her mother’s death and dealing with divorce rumors, as well as having fun with Amy Poehler talking about the endless debate between partners regarding what temperature the thermostat should be set.
