A popular local radio DJ in Virginia found himself in the middle of a crime scene investigation — while allegedly committing a crime himself.

In the Virginia Beach community, Brandon Stokes, also known as “Shaggy,” is a well-known figure as the host of the morning show on Z104. Additionally, he owns a local skating rink. Recently, Stokes was reportedly attempting to reach his skating rink on a Wednesday morning, according to WAVY, an NBC affiliate. However, at the same time, police were probing an officer-involved shooting in that vicinity, causing the area to be off-limits for access.

Stokes allegedly tried to drive through anyway — and he was allegedly drunk when police tried to stop him.

Court records reviewed by WAVY reveal that officers halted Stokes while he was in his vehicle around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The officers repeatedly informed Stokes that access to the area was restricted due to an ongoing investigation. Despite these warnings, Stokes allegedly became “belligerent,” using foul language towards the officers and reportedly challenging them by saying, “You wanna bet?” when told he could not pass through the crime scene.

Local ABC affiliate WVEC reported that Stokes’ words were “slurred, incoherent and shouting” and he smelled of alcohol, according to an officer who spoke to him. Stokes was asked if he had been drinking that day, but it was not clear if he had a response to that.
