South Korea halts loudspeaker broadcasts along border with rival North Korea

SEOUL – In a step towards reducing conflict, South Korea’s military has ceased using loudspeakers along the border with North Korea that broadcast anti-North Korean messages.

The broadcasting through loudspeakers was restarted by South Korea in June last year after a long break. This was in response to North Korea sending balloons filled with trash as part of a psychological tactic against the South.

According to South Korea’s Defense Ministry on Wednesday, this decision aligns with their efforts to rebuild trust and foster peace between the two Koreas on the Korean Peninsula.
