DENVER (KDVR) Police confirmed on Tuesday they are investigating a “suspicious death” after the body found in a Lakewood alley was identified as the missing Denver hairstylist, Jax Gratton.

The Lakewood Police Department said officers were called on Friday evening to the 9600 block of W. Colfax Ave. after someone found a dead body in the alleyway. On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office positively identified the body as 34-year-old Jack “Jax” Gratton.

This comes after Gratton had been missing since April 15. The community had been searching for her and handing out flyers around Denver looking for Gratton, who was officially reported missing on April 24.

Police initially said that the body was “in the advanced stages of decomposition” and could not be positively identified; however, Cherilynne Gratton-Camis, Gratton’s mother, confirmed with affiliate KDVR on Friday that it was Gratton.

After her recovery, Gratton-Camis told KDVR that a detective said Jax was found in the clothes she was wearing the night she disappeared.

While the cause of death hasn’t been determined, police said they’re treating this as a “suspicious death” and working with the Denver Police Department on this case.
