The Tolono Park District in Illinois is reaching out to the community for assistance following “substantial vandalism and damage” to their parks over the past few weeks.

The district posted on Facebook detailing the damage at both West Side Park and East Side Park, noting how it disrupts park operations and diminishes the experience for local residents.

At West Side Park, the damage includes car tracks in the parking area from doing donuts, a broken mirror in the accessible restroom, scattered rocks on the baseball diamond, a damaged tire swing, and a smashed roof vent in a bathroom.

In the East Side Park, the park district said the restrooms were vandalized with graffiti, broken toilet paper and paper towel holders, the toilets were stuffed with paper and wet paper towels were thrown on walls and the ceiling.

“These incidents result in costly repairs, facility closures, and staff time that could be used for improvements rather than cleanup,” the park district said.

Now, the park district is asking community members that see suspicious behavior in the parks to report it by calling the police or emailing them at info@tolonoparks.org.
