() Sen. Josh Hawley announced he is launching an investigation into the Los Angeles protests, focusing on who is funding individuals or groups behind any violence.

As the protests enter a sixth day, there were numerous instances of the protests escalating, with LA Mayor Karen Bass blaming the Trump administration for creating unrest with recent ICE raids in the area. Thousands of National Guard troops and 700 active-duty U.S. Marines were deployed to LA to quell protests.

“This violence isn’t spontaneous. As chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime & Terrorism, I’m launching an investigation to find out,” Hawley, a Missouri Republican, said in a post on social platform X.

Hawley shared a letter he wrote to Angelica Salas, the executive director of the activist group Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. In the letter, Hawley requested that Salas preserve documents dating back to Nov. 5, 2024 to the present. He alleged that he had evidence that the group “provided logistical support and financial resources to individuals engaged in these disruptive actions” but did not provide evidence in the letter.

“Let me be clear: bankrolling civil unrest is not protected speech. It is aiding and abetting criminal conduct,” Hawley said. “Accordingly, you must immediately cease and desist any further involvement in the organization, funding or promotion of these unlawful activities.”
