The much-anticipated UWB support for the Moto Tag location tracker is finally being launched through a firmware update, as initially promised in June 2024. This development makes the Moto Tag the first tracker within Google’s Find Hub network to feature ultra-wideband technology. UWB provides an advantage over Bluetooth by offering precise distance and directional indicators, leading users with compatible phones directly to their misplaced tags.
To upgrade your Moto Tag, ensure you have the 01.00.073.10 version of the Moto Tag app from the Play Store. This allows you to install the 2.0.93 firmware, which includes UWB support. A modern Android phone with UWB capability, such as the latest Galaxy and Pixel models, is also required.
The delay in implementation isn’t Motorola’s fault, as Google’s Find Hub location app (previously known as Find My Device) has only recently integrated UWB support. In contrast, Samsung’s network has offered UWB for its SmartTags since their 2020 launch, while Apple’s network has supported UWB for AirTags since they debuted in 2021.
