SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah has become a part of the “Bee City USA” community network, demonstrating its ongoing dedication to sustainability, urban biodiversity, and care for the environment.

In honor of this achievement, Bee City Savannah will organize its first-ever Pollinator Palooza across the city. This celebration will take place during National Pollinator Week from June 16 to 22 and will culminate in a free festival open to the public on Saturday, June 21, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Daffin Park.

The Pollinator Palooza will offer a variety of activities, such as educational workshops, garden installations, bee-themed menus at local eateries, youth activities, public art displays, and a community science project. These events aim to emphasize the essential role that pollinators have in sustaining our local ecosystems.

Savannah has partnered with the Foster Beelief Foundation and BEEnevolent, led by community advocate Sade Shofidiya. Other community partners include Savannah Bee Company, Fruitful Futures, Common Thread, Flora & Fauna, Freedom Fellowship Church, The Beach Institute, Keevy’s Beevies and Good Clean Fun.

The Savannah Pollinator Preservation Committee has been designated as the facilitating body for Bee City Savannah. You are encouraged to get involved by attending meetings, volunteering and supporting pollinator-friendly efforts across the city.

What is Bee City USA?

Bee City USA is an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. The program provides a framework for municipalities to improve pollinator habitat through native plantings, pesticide reduction and community engagement. In 2023 alone, U.S. beekeepers reported nearly a 48% loss of managed honeybee colonies, underscoring the need for coordinated action to protect these critical species.
