talkSPORT understands that Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Bryan Mbeumo following Thomas Frank’s appointment.

But the Cameroonian’s preferred option remains Manchester United after the Red Devils submitted multiple bids.

Brentford want in excess of £60million for Mbeumo.

Former Bees boss Frank is looking to instantly reunite with his star following an impressive last campaign.

Mbeumo netted 20 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League, putting up his career-best numbers.

United are looking to add English experience to their squad after securing £62.5m Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

A bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons was rejected for Mbeumo with another offer understood to be on the way.

The situation becomes more complex with Spurs showing interest, especially since Frank, who helped make the French-born player a standout in the Premier League, is now their manager.

The champions of the Europa League can provide Mbeumo with an opportunity to play in the Champions League, even though the two leading English clubs have just come off their worst domestic seasons ever.

The European football factor should play a key role in Mbeumo’s decision, according to talkSPORT host and Arsenal great Perry Groves.

“In terms of football, he should choose Spurs – and it hurts me to admit this – because they can offer Champions League play, and aspiring to perform on the biggest stage is important,” he commented.

“But financially, Spurs are going to struggle because all the top teams pay their top players £200,000-a-week plus. Spurs are never going to do that.”

talkSPORT understands that United are happy to up Mbeumo’s current wages from £50,000 per-week to £250,000 per-week.

But when it comes to Spurs, only Christian Norgaard has made more appearances under Thomas Frank than Mbeumo’s 242, in which he scored 70 goals and recorded 51 assists.

Both United and Spurs struggled for league goals last season with Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo scoring a club best eight for the latter.

Spurs’ top scorer was Brennan Johnson on 11.

United spent over £100m on centre forward duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but neither have made the striker’s berth their own.

The 20-time Premier League winners are set for a major overhaul this summer, with both Cunha and Mbeumo seen as perfect fits for Ruben Amoim’s 3-4-3 system that failed spectacularly in his first half-season at Old Trafford.

England legend Stuart Pearce also believes that Mbeumo should be prioritising Spurs over United, but for a different reason to Groves.

Asked why the Cameroonian has been so successful, he said on talkSPORT: “I think it’s the relationship between him and the manager.

“Obviously he gets on very well with him it seems from the outside, and everything comes down to finances as well, if they match his aspirations.

“Thing is with Tottenham as well, he doesn’t have to leave London.

“So if he doesn’t want to change his city in any way shape or form, it’s ideal for him.”
