From Sex Toy Parties To Hot-Spring Baptisms, ‘The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives’ Season 2 Is Giving More Sinner Than Saint

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast returned with a bang for Season 2—not just for the drama. Though a month has passed since all 10 episodes of the second season hit Hulu, it’s always a good time to acknowledge their achievements. From the opening credits to a sex-themed party dedicated to helping Layla Taylor achieve her first big O, Season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cranked up the heat—a surprising feat considering the show kicked off with a swinging controversy.

In its inaugural season, apart from Taylor Frankie Paul, who openly discussed swinging with her ex-husband and Mormon friends, the women were still somewhat reserved. Jen Affleck panicked about forgetting her garments during a girls’ trip, and Whitney Leavitt grappled with a storyline about possibly compromising her Mormon beliefs to collaborate with a sex toy brand (spoiler: she did accept the offer).

However, this season, the MomTokkers raised the stakes. The previously clear divisions of Sinner and Saint blurred in Season 2, as everyone let down their defenses, mingling more freely between the groups—even if many still chose soda over coffee and alcohol, adhering to some LDS habits and rules that are tough to shake off.

Not only did Hulu shovel out some extra doe for a warmer-toned, more professional lighting, but they also changed their opening credits. The women were no longer in large, boxy trench coats that made them look like they were in some sort of MomTok/Mormon cult. Instead, they wore slinky white dresses as they slowly emerged from a Utah hot spring (think a sexy baptism combined with a wet T-shirt contest). Even Leavitt, who rejoined MomTok this season after previously announcing her exit, noticed the similarities.

“I feel like when I was filming it, that’s what was going on in my head. I’m like, ‘Oh, so this is a sexy baptism,’” she told DECIDER when she stopped by our studio earlier this month. “But nobody was fully dunked, which I guess kind of helps. It was fun. The water was warm. It’s a hot spring. There’s a lot of hot springs in Utah. Everyone looked amazing.”

That new opening set the precedent for a scandalous season ahead (and we’re not just talking about the Demi Engemann–Jessi Ngatikaura–Marciano Brunette alleged cheating saga). Paul exposed more details about her swinging scandal with newbie Miranda McWhorter, sharing how they used to have sex with their then-husbands in the same shower and make out with each other while the men recorded them on their phones. There was an ill-fated Chippendales performance from Engemann and Ngatikaura’s husbands at the Halloween party, which ended in drama between Affleck and her husband, who raked her over the coals last season for so much as attending a Chippendales show in Las Vegas. Oh, and Taylor took a hit of a joint that came out of a burlesque dancer’s cooch during a girl’s trip to New Orleans.

However, one of the steamiest group gatherings was a “Remove the Taboo” soiree at Engemann’s house in Episode 4, where they invited a sex and relationship coach to give them tips on how to find out what gets them going in the bedroom.

Wearing their finest lingerie, the ladies opened up about the different things that aroused them. They blindfolded themselves and tested out whips and feathers on each other, per a sensation exercise presented by the sex expert. However, it wasn’t until Taylor got handcuffed and lightly whipped by Paul that she realized she likes it “hard and rough.” The good news? It worked! We later learned that she did, in fact, experience an orgasm for the first time.

There was certainly a lot to explore in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2 — more than could ever fit in 10 episodes — but the more the MomTokkers get comfortable with each other and in front of cameras, the more they lean more Sinner than Saint. Now, bring on Season 3!
