GUYTON, Ga. () — According to a city official, the City of Guyton will adjust their billing schedule temporarily for June and July, following a lightning strike.

The strike hit a tree beside the Guyton utility office, damaging their computer software and preventing bill processing, explained Utility/Permits Clerk Jenna McVey.

The software upgrade that would allow them to send bills is scheduled for review and approval at the July 8 city council meeting.

Due to the issues, they can’t issue bills as usual. June and July utility usage will be combined and billed together on users August statement.

Payment for both months will be due Aug. 15.

The City of Guyton will not offer payment plans or installment options for the combined August bill, McVey said.

Customers will be able to make a voluntary payment in July based on their typical usage to reduce the impact of the higher bill in August.

If you have any questions or would like help estimating your usual montly bill, contact the City of Guyton’s billing department at (912) 772-3353.
