Anarchy: Chicago's Mayor Promises to Resist Enforcing the Law

Is this resistance or treachery?

Over the weekend on MSNBC, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson stated that Chicago will maintain its “sanctuary” city status, opposing any federal attempts to enforce immigration law within the city. When did the idea of enforcing the law become something only seen as negative by criminals?

The mayor said:

Mayor Johnson highlighted the anxiety and fear that his administration perceives as being instilled by the federal government. He remarked that societies do not thrive under such fear, and therefore, Chicago will continue its resistance through various approaches, including protests, legal actions, and policymaking. He expressed pride in the city’s welcoming nature, emphasizing that local law enforcement will not act as federal ICE agents. Mayor Johnson underscored the importance of maintaining and building trust with all residents as the city upholds its policy.

Let’s unpack that statement.

First of all, there’s no “anxiety, fear, or trepidation” among anyone in the country legally, except for the nitwits and low-information types who buy into the blatherings of hack leftist politicians. But it’s the “resist” part that’s troublesome. The mayor, speaking on behalf of the city of Chicago, is promising to resist the federal government in the performance of its constitutional duties. Mayor Johnson has never read the Constitution, has no idea what the Supremacy Clause is, and has no intention of finding out.

Here’s the question: Has the city of Chicago’s mayor just pronounced that this city, one of America’s major cities, is in rebellion against the government of the United States? If so, what action should the United States take?
