PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. () — Dollywood celebrates its 40th anniversary! Originating as a modest train ride along the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in 1961, Dollywood has grown into a leader in the theme park world, driven by Dolly Parton’s imaginative and innovative vision.

“I’ve always believed that the Smoky Mountains are among the most beautiful places created by God, and I am fortunate to call them my home,” said Dolly. “When I first imagined Dollywood, I had two simple goals. I wanted to create a place that attracted visitors from far and wide to witness the magic of the Smokies and, hopefully, develop a love for them just as I have.”

In its 40-year journey, Dollywood has evolved into a vacation hotspot offering attractions for all ages. Jenn Webb, Dollywood’s senior publicist, emphasizes that this is more applicable today than ever. “We’re truly multigenerational. You can bring young children for our small rides, we have thrilling rides for adventure enthusiasts, and a range of shows to entertain everyone in the group.”

Dollywood is known for great food too. Webb says many of their restaurants serve up award-winning food like their cinnamon bread. “That is one thing our guests really love!”

But more than anything, Webb says Dollywood is a place to just enjoy yourself. “You can really just come in here, relax, enjoy time with your family and just have a really special day.”

Just like Dolly envisioned it 40 years ago.
