Timing of Mets rotation troubles come with plenty of worry

Statistically, the Mets rotation remains atop the heap, No. 1 in all of baseball, with a 2.93 ERA. Realistically, it doesn’t feel that way today.

Those in the know report that staff ace Kodai Senga, leading the National League in ERA, will likely be sidelined for at least five weeks due to a hamstring injury. The silver lining amidst this setback is that Senga’s injury is a Grade 1 (low grade) strain, offering a glimmer of hope in a challenging week.

Following a poor performance from starter Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning struggled significantly on Sunday. Two standout performers of the season delivered their worst performances, culminating in the most challenging home weekend of an otherwise strong start to the season, despite the continual disappointment from the weather.

In front of a Father’s Day sellout crowd of 42,804, on yet another dreary day, the Rays dominated Canning. They set the tone with a wild third inning, scoring three runs, with only one ball leaving the infield, showcasing Canning’s struggles and casting a shadow over the otherwise festive day.
