French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that President Trump had suggested a truce between Iran and Israel as part of a strategy to calm the rising tensions in the Middle East.

“If the U.S. can bring about a cease-fire, that would be excellent,” Macron remarked to journalists during a G7 summit in Canada. This comment came just as the White House revealed Trump would leave the assembly of global leaders early due to the escalating strife between Iran and Israel.

“A proposal has indeed been made to meet and communicate, primarily aimed at establishing a cease-fire before initiating more extensive discussions,” the French leader noted. “We must observe now if both parties will agree to this.”

Macron’s comments come as Trump warned that “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran,” and reports indicate that the president will give the Iranian regime one last chance to sign off on a deal that seeks to prevent it from enriching uranium needed for a nuclear weapon.

The White House and Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
