Johnson City, Tenn. (WJHL) — Over 1,300 volunteers from almost 50 businesses are engaging in community service across the Tri-Cities during the United Way Week of Caring.

The United Way of Bristol, TN/VA has teamed up with the United Way of East Tennessee Highlands and United Way of Greater Kingsport to host the 32nd annual event.

“This event powerfully showcases the impact when businesses and individuals come together for a common cause,” stated Lorie Bradley, Director of Community Outreach for United Way of Bristol, TN/VA.

One participating location is the Coalition for Kids in Johnson City. Sixteen volunteers from the accounting firm Blackburn Childers and Steagall spent 4 hours inside the middle school area of the building, giving the walls a fresh coat of paint.

“The kids, when they come here in any classroom that we have here, we want it to be a bright, energetic space that the kids want to come to. And when it’s bright and cheerful and everything looks clean and fresh, you know, it’s great for the kids attitude and all of that,” said Coalition for Kids Director of Outreach Cindy Smith.

The United Way Week of Caring continues through Friday.
