A 6-year-old girl from Kentucky is in critical condition, while her mother has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, after allegedly striking the child on the head with a hammer.
Officers from the Louisville Metro Police responded to the incident around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, discovering the girl suffering from several blunt force injuries to her head, as reported by WLKY. She was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she remains under medical care.
According to police, the mother, 39-year-old Zeinab Abdi, confessed to investigators that she struggles with intense anger and self-control issues. She acknowledged hitting her daughter on the head with a hammer “an unknown number of times.”
Her son, who age was not given, told police his mother told him, “Let me finish her” and tried to get back to the girl when he separated them.
Louisville Police said Abdi was charged with attempted murder (domestic violence). She was arraigned on Friday and given a $500,000 bond, WLKY said. The judge ordered her to have no contact with any children, including her own.
