Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Travion Lamar Davis, 21, was taken into custody yesterday following an attempt to flee from a traffic stop. He is also accused of tampering with evidence by discarding marijuana and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Approximately at 5:49 p.m. on June 19, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the 6400 block of SW 8th Avenue to provide assistance during a traffic stop. Reports from the deputy indicate that Davis, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, attempted to exit the scene despite being repeatedly instructed to remain in the vehicle.

Davis was directed by the deputy to place his hands behind his back, but he allegedly refused, claiming he was not involved in the traffic stop. The deputy stated that he had to use physical force to apprehend Davis, who reportedly resisted but was ultimately secured.

The deputy reported that Davis dropped a bag containing a leafy green substance while he was resisting the deputy’s commands; when asked about the bag, Davis reportedly denied any knowledge of the bag and said he didn’t smoke. He later reportedly said he did not have a medical marijuana card. The deputy reported that the marijuana weighed about 14 grams.

The deputy reported seeing a bulge in Davis’s waistband and asked if he had any weapons; Davis reportedly said he had a firearm and was legally carrying it. The deputy noted that Davis had the firearm on his person while he allegedly attempted to tamper with evidence (a felony) by dropping the marijuana.

Post Miranda, Davis did not want to speak with the deputy.

Davis has been charged with possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent under the age of 24, displaying a firearm during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has a juvenile conviction from 2017 and is on pre-trial release from an April arrest; he was arrested early on the morning of April 21 after allegedly fleeing from an officer who said there was a report that Davis had been brandishing a firearm. Davis was charged with resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor, and released on $10,000 bail with a prohibition on possessing any weapons or firearms; a formal charge was filed on June 10.

Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $79,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
