Americans traveling overseas are being advised to remain vigilant globally, due to the conflict between Israel and Iran leading to international travel disruptions.

The U.S. State Department issued a warning to those traveling around the world, citing the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens.

“The conflict between Israel and Iran has caused disruptions to travel and occasional airspace closures across the Middle East,” stated the State Department in its Worldwide Caution advisory. “There is a potential for protests against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State advises U.S. citizens around the world to exercise heightened caution.”

Last week, the State Department cautioned U.S. travelers against visiting locations such as Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank because of armed conflict, terrorism, and civil unrest.

After the bombing, Iranian officials warned of retaliation against the U.S.

The State Department often issues alerts and travel advisories for Americans overseas.

The travel advisories range from “exercise normal precaution” to “Do Not Travel,” which is reserved for parts of the world where there is ongoing conflict, ethnic or religious discrimination or where U.S. citizens are generally not welcome.

Other reasons for alerts include crime rates, health concerns and piracy in some parts of the world.
