SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah is making significant strides in planning its future, and the community is invited to join in this endeavor. On Wednesday, residents will have the opportunity to provide their input on the city’s new strategic plan.

This initiative, known as “Savannah GPS,” aims to ensure that your opinions are central to how residents live, work, and thrive in Savannah. The city hasn’t developed a comprehensive strategic plan since 2017, and your contributions will help shape its direction. From safety to housing, “Savannah GPS” is crafted based on what is most important to you. Now, the city is seeking your feedback before the plan is finalized.

Earlier this year, residents were encouraged to express their concerns and aspirations for the future. Over 1,200 individuals responded, addressing issues ranging from public safety and affordable housing to economic growth and infrastructure. These insights informed the draft version of “Savannah GPS.” The strategic plan that emerges from this process reflects the priorities identified by the community.

Crime, homelessness and housing affordability emerged as top concerns. People who responded also praised the city’s historic charm, walkability and sense of community. Officials say the goal is to create a safer, more equitable and connected Savannah by listening to the people who live here.

Wednesday’s presentation event is open to anyone who has questions. Savannah Mayor Johnson said, “You don’t have to go all around the city. You can go in one room with everybody you need regarding the City of Savannah. Somebody in there should be able to answer your question. [Savannah GPS] gives us our North Star so that when we kind of go off track or are discussing what we want to spend, or when we say, “Let’s do this.” – we will look back and say, ‘Our strategic plan says this.'”

The event is at the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will spotlight the draft plan. Other key goals of the plan include improving fire and traffic safety and increasing transparency in policing.

The final version of the plan is expected to be adopted by city council during their meeting Thursday.
