HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC () – A favorite character on the ice made an appearance at a “HOT” camp on Hilton Head Island.
Davy, the Savannah Ghost Pirates mascot, showed off his firefighting skills for the Hilton Head Island Fire-Rescue girls’ camp.
The “H.O.T. Girls” camp doesn’t relate to temperature or flames; the acronym means “hands on training,” which the participants received from their counselors.
The hope is some of these campers could turn into future firefighters someday.
“They’re acquiring these practical skills, but we are also imparting lessons,” mentioned Kenzie Hrobar, Communications Specialist for HHI Fire/Rescue. “We’re building confidence, encouraging leadership, enhancing mental resilience, and promoting physical fitness, showing how these qualities can be vital in any career path they choose, including fire service or any other field.”
Girls will learn many skills during the weeklong camp. Everything from operating fire hydrants to climbing ladders and rescuing victims.
Fire officials said it’s a great opportunity to get a taste of what the job is really like.
