SAVANNAH, Ga. () — As the Fourth of July approaches, Savannah is issuing reminders to residents regarding fireworks laws and urging caution for those planning to use them this year.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the only safe way to view fireworks is to attend a professional show.

For those opting to handle fireworks themselves, local and state regulations specify that fireworks can only be discharged between 10 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and July 4.

Fireworks can only be used by individuals 18 and older.

Regarding permissible locations for fireworks use, they are prohibited on public roads, highways, indoors, in parks, at historic sites, or on properties owned by the state of Georgia or the city of Savannah.

In addition, fireworks cannot be used within 100 yards of an electric plant, water treatment plant, gas stations, flammable liquids, a public use air facility, healthcare facility or a prison or jail.

Celebratory gunfire is also prohibited.

Above all else, exercise caution.
