CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation and the Holocaust Education Center are hosting a pop-up art exhibit on Auschwitz.

The exhibit — found at McKinley Presbyterian Church on U of I’s campus — features 24 panels and 60 pieces of art made by survivors of Auschwitz.

The artwork featured in the exhibit has been loaned from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Poland. This marks the inaugural occasion of the exhibit being showcased beyond Europe, through a temporary pop-up tour.

“The focus isn’t solely on Judaism but also on genocide, illustrating both the destructive force of hatred and the importance of tolerance, as well as the lessons we can derive from it,” explained Brian Kahn, a volunteer with the Holocaust Education Center.

Each panel takes you through a different experience of life in the concentration camp, from arrival and work to punishment and execution.

Photography of the artwork is prohibited by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, but the C-U Jewish Federation encourages visitors to witness these impactful images firsthand.

The exhibit remains on display through Sunday. It is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
