DENVER (KDVR) — One of the victims in the June 1 attack of Israeli hostage supporters on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall has died, and the suspect now faces first-degree murder charges, according to the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Mohamed Sabry Soliman is charged both at the state and federal level with attacking with Molotov cocktails a group of people from Run for Their Lives while they were advocating for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza on June 1.

The district attorney’s office also updated the number of victims in the attack to 29 people, with 13 of them suffering “physical injury during the attack,” according to a Monday morning press release.

The district attorney’s office identified 82-year-old Karen Diamond as the victim who died “tragically as a result of the severe injuries that she suffered in the attack.”

“This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends. Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time. Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and the community. Part of what makes Colorado special is that people come together in response to a tragedy; I know that the community will continue to unite in supporting the Diamond family and all the victims of this attack.”

District Attorney Michael Dougherty

The DA’s office amended two counts of attempted murder to first-degree murder for Daimond’s death. Count 4 charges first-degree murder under an extreme indifference theory and Count 5 charges first-degree murder with intent and after deliberation.

In addition to that, the DA’s office added 66 counts related to the 14 additional victims who have now been identified.

Here is the list of new total charges in the criminal complaint:

  • 2 counts of first-degree murder,
  • 52 counts of attempted first-degree murder,
  • 8 counts of first-degree assault,
  • 18 counts of attempted first-degree assault,
  • 2 counts of third-degree assault,
  • 2 counts of using an incendiary device,
  • 16 counts of attempted use of an incendiary device and
  • 1 count of animal cruelty.

The DA’s office earlier this month also said a dog was injured in the attack.

The district attorney’s office said Soliman’s next state court date is schedule for July 15.

Soliman is charged with federal hate crimes and pleaded not guilty last week in federal court. affiliate KDVR reached out to the U.S. Attorney’s office about if they would update any charges as a result of Diamond’s death, but the office declined to comment.
