Joint press conference with Richmond and Burke Sheriff's Offices on death of Xavion Wimberly

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Significant announcements and substantial financial developments emerged from the conference today following new progress in the case surrounding the death of 23-year-old Xavion Wimberly. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Burke County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint news conference today.

Xavion Wimberly died while crossing at 3253 Deans Bridge Road at approximately 3:16 am. Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley reports that they have apprehended Daveyon TyShawn Williams, who is alleged to have struck Wimberly and fled the scene.

“Anyone could access social media and see the kind of person my son was,” said Xavier Wimberly, Xavion’s father. “He was full of joy. I hesitate to simply say ‘happy’ since happiness can be fleeting. My son was genuinely joyous. He had a promising future.”

The sheriff’s offices are now looking for the person or people who stole items from Wimberly while he lay on the road.

“We cannot, and should not allow this kind of behavior to go unanswered,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office are working closely together to identify and bring to justice the person or persons responsible for this despicable act.”

Burke and Richmond County investigators are working together to offer a $7,500 reward for information or videos of the person or persons responsible for this incident.

“They are good people; they’re Burke County people. We stand with y’all. We love you; we know your hearts are hurting. Our hearts are hurting,” said Sheriff Alfonzo Williams, Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Wimberly family were also in attendance, stating that they are aware of the information available and are seeking help from the community and peace.

“It was on Facebook, but then it was taken off Facebook. So, we know it’s out there. It just will someone have the courage to step up and do the right thing,” said Wimberly.
