A Georgia woman is accused of driving slightly over the legal alcohol limit while operating a golf cart at a Florida country club, an incident that resulted in her husband’s fatal fall.

According to jail records, 62-year-old Cynthia Mackin has been charged with driving under the influence. Sgt. Dominick Mesiti from the Port St. Lucie police department informed Treasure Coast Newspapers that the incident took place around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday near Astor Creek Golf & Country Club. Reports state that Mackin was behind the wheel while her husband Daniel Mackin was standing on the back of the cart.

“He fell off the back of the golf cart and struck his head,” Mesiti told the newspaper. “They were on a sidewalk going to another … location on the golf course.”

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Cynthia Mackin allegedly had a blood alcohol content level of 0.09 — just above the legal limit of 0.08. Cops took her to the St. Lucie County Jail where she has since posted a $500 bond. The Mackins live in Greensboro, Georgia, which is roughly 75 miles east of Atlanta.

Deputies also reportedly arrested a second person — 37-year-old Justis Morrison — for obstruction. Mesiti said cops were trying to investigate the incident when Morrison reportedly interfered with them and was “yelling at the officers and telling the wife to not cooperate with the investigation.”

He also has since posted a $500 bond.
