Multiple evacuation warnings remain in place and strong winds and dangerous surf are expected today for the New South Wales coast.

An east coast low that achieved bomb cyclone status is expected to drive east over the Tasman Sea throughout today, lessening the chances of heavy rain for the South Coast.

However, a hazardous surf warning remains in place, with the public urged to avoid beaches from the Tweed right down to Eden.

Waves of five to seven metres are expected.

Parts of Wamberal and The Entrance on the Central Coast remain under SES evacuation orders, with coastal erosion posing a danger to homes.

Residents at Sussex Inlet on the South Coast have been told to prepare to evacuate, while advice and floodwater warnings are in place at multiple locations around the state.

Strong winds are expected on the coast today, with warnings in place for the Macquarie, Hunter, Sydney, Illawarra, Byron, Coffs, Batemans, and Eden coasts.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued flood warnings for the Hawkesbury, Nepean, Shoalhaven, Peel, and Snowy rivers, as well as Lake Macquarie and the St Georges basin.
