Will move towards Carolinas over the weekend
A new tropical depression, identified as Tropical Depression 3, has developed in the Atlantic. An investigation by Hurricane Hunters determined that the system, initially referred to as Invest 92, has strengthened into a tropical depression.
Maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph.
The storm is expected to become a short-lived tropical storm before coming ashore in the Carolinas on Sunday.
If the depression becomes a tropical storm, reaching sustained winds of 40 mph, it would receive the name Chantal.
The worst of the weather is expected to be situated on the eastern side of the storm.
Hurricane season ends Nov. 30
