Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall has joined Turkish side Besiktas on loan for the rest of the season, talkSPORT understands.

Worrall had fallen down the pecking order at the City Ground after a disagreement with former manager Steve Cooper.

The Turkish transfer window is still open and will close on February 9, meaning deals can still be completed for incoming arrivals to the Super Lig.

The 27-year-old was spotted in Turkey to watch Besiktas’ match against Trabzonspor, who were also interested in his signature, on Sunday.

Worrall’s future will be revisited in the summer at Forest, with the terms of the deal seeing him loaned until the end of the season.

Agreements have already been finalised and terms have been sorted between all parties with Besiktas set to announce Worrall’s arrival.

The defender has struggled to find game time this season, making just seven appearances in the Premier League.

Since Nuno Espirito Santo took over as manager, the player has made just one league appearance, which was merely a few seconds off the bench during a 3-1 victory against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Worrall is a fan favourite at the City Ground, where he came up through the academy before taking on the armband.

In the absence of an injured Lewis Grabban, he took up the captain’s role in 2021/22 and led Forest to the Premier League.

In 2022, he was promoted to a higher role as the team prepared to return to the top division, and he became a regular fixture last season, making 30 appearances in the Premier League.

This season, however, the former England Under-21 player has slid down the rankings, with Murillo, Mousa Niakhate, Willy Boly, and Andrew Omobamidele all preferred over him.

Worrall only signed a three-year contract extension last summer before a disagreement with Cooper saw him sidelined.

He was absent from the squad that played Bournemouth on Sunday.
