SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A fireworks incident at the Boone Lake Marina reportedly left two people injured on Friday night, as confirmed by first responders.

Video provided to News Channel 11 shows multiple fireworks going off at once, close to the lake’s surface.

Viewers told News Channel 11 that first responders were called to the scene.

Sullivan County EMA Director Jim Bean informed News Channel 11 that the two individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Additionally, Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department Captain Chris Berry verified the injuries, stating that the accidental discharge of fireworks happened on a barge. Fortunately, everyone managed to evacuate the barge safely.

Berry said that as of 11 p.m., crews had cleared the scene.

Bean said that the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded. The sheriff’s office said it assisted, but TWRA was handling the incident.

The TWRA said on Saturday morning that it took preliminary information but is now turning over the investigation to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) “since the incident occurred on a commercial vehicle.”

News Channel 11 has reached out to the USCG for more details on its investigation.
