Jeffries is currently facing a complex situation with socialist favorite and NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who has successfully defeated ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the June primary. Mamdani is under scrutiny for displaying antisemitic attitudes and proposing extremely Marxist policies. Additionally, he openly declared that his Columbia University college application listed him as “Black or African American” and “Asian.”
When questioned about his opinion on this matter, Jeffries, the minority leader, avoided giving a direct answer. Instead, he dodged the question entirely and shifted to a different subject. This seemingly evasive response is indicative of what is considered leadership within today’s Democratic party:

During an exchange, Rev. Al Sharpton asked Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to share his opinion on NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s claim of identifying as African-American on a college application. Jeffries quickly redirected the discussion, avoiding the topic altogether:
