Costco has announced that there is a safety issue with the Igloo 90 Qt Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler, which could lead to “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards” due to a defect in the tow handle.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall on February 13, 2025, with about 1,060,000 units affected in the US alone.

“The firm has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations,” CPSC reported.

An additional 47,000 units were sold in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico, bringing the total recall to more than 1.1 million coolers.

Recalled coolers were sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s, and other stores nationwide.

It was also sold online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites.

The affected coolers were sold between January 2019 through January 2025 and cost between $80 and $140.

The warning applies to units sold nationwide at Costco stores and through other retailers.

The company says the recall applies to coolers manufactured before 2024, with a date code of 2023 or earlier printed on the bottom.

In a letter sent to Costco members, Igloo urged customers to immediately stop using the cooler and visit its website to check eligibility

Some of the items were sold through Costco Next, a program allowing members to buy directly from partner brands at discounted prices.

Others were purchased in-store or online from regular stores Costco channels.

In multiple cases, consumers are being urged to stop using the products immediately.

An Anker Power Bank (Model A1257) was pulled due to possible battery issues.

While the risk of malfunction is low, Anker still warned customers to “stop using the device immediately.”

The Danby 8k U-shaped Window Air Conditioner is also under recall.

Officials say water buildup in the unit can lead to mold.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that this issue is not limited to just Igloo but also affects coolers sold under various brands like Midea, Frigidaire, Insignia, Mr. Cool, and others.

Another mold warning applies to Midea U-Shape Window ACs, with certain item numbers sold at Costco.

Health experts say mold exposure from these units could trigger respiratory infections and other issues.

Customers can find full recall info on Costco’s website under the Product Recalls section.
